Ology-eco friendly products arrive at Walgreens

Ology is a new line of eco friendlier products now available at Walgreens.

Walgreens has launched its new line called Ology and I think the products are a step in the right direction for those looking to “green” up their homes. As I perused the aisles of Walgreens, I did take notice of the distinctive tan & pink packaging and liked that an eco friendlier option is available wide-spread.

Friends and family members are always asking me what types of products they should use if they are looking for greener options. Most are aware of the potential dangerous ingredients in conventional cleaners and typical personal care items. These products often include chemicals that are linked to cancer, act as hormone disrupters, interfere with our respiratory system and are known skin, eye, and nose irritants.  When I share items that I have come to love and trust, my friends and family (and my dear readers!) are often met with frustration when they find out they can only purchase greener options at a distant health food store and that they should expect to pay, in many cases,at least  $2 to $3 more for greener options.

Enter Ology….

Ology features a line of baby and personal care products, as well as household cleaners that are free of harmful chemicals. In addition, Ology offers light bulbs and 100% tree-free paper products. Exclusive to Walgreens family of companies, Ology is the solution to the growing consumer demand for safer formulations of everyday household products.

Ology is backed and endorsed by Healthy Child, Healthy World, an organization committed to helping families create a healthier household environment. I liked that the Ology line of products is made right here in the USA & that all the products offer 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

As a disclaimer, I typically make our own cleaners and we are almost a paper products free household, BUT I know that many families aren’t and need accessible, affordable options that are safer for them, their families, and our environment.

I did like that a greener option was placed right next to the leading brands, giving consumers the chance to easily select what I feel is a greener choice.  I noticed right away that the Ology line is priced competively. Those looking to clean in a manner that is safer and healthier no longer need to visit a specialty store or order their eco cleaners online. Having greener products accessible to everyone means that more people are likely to buy and use them.

I decided to try Ology’s Baby Shampoo & Body Wash. I  thought the baby wash/shampoo gave a nice lather, and did not have an overpowering scent.  It did not dry out the children’s skin like other washes I have tried.  I did note that the package did say “natural fragrance” which I know to often be a disguise for a host of nasties. “Natural”  is not a regulated term so I will investigate to find out exactly what “fragrance” is included. Some children may be sensitive to the essential oils used, but this was not a problem for our children.

The Baby Shampoo and Body wash (all in one) DOES NOT CONTAIN:

  • parabens
  • silicones
  • dyes
  • hthalates
  • animal by -products

I typically clean our entire house with cleaners I make using everyday items like vinegar, and baking soda. Again, noting this is not a widely used practice,  I decided to try the Ology all -purpose household cleaner. The trigger is easy to use and doesn’t clog even after multiple uses. The cleaner does work well on all surfaces and although has a scent, I didn’t find it offensive. It certainly did not create what I call a “chemical cloud” when sprayed and I felt comfortable using it in rooms where the children frequently play. It certainly was tough on fingerprints, worked well on glass, countertops and wood trim.  I was impressed with the Ology all-purpose cleaner. I am happy to have a cleaner that I would recommend to friends that are looking to green up their cleaning, but are not interested in making their own. I think the Ology cleaning solution line is a great affordable alternative.

The cleaners DO NOT CONTAIN:

  • dyes and ammonia
  • solvents
  •  artificial fragrance
  • and are not tested on animals
  • and are packaged in 100% post consumer materials which are coded for recycling

Several consumer groups helped drive support for the U.S. Senate’s recently approved chemical reporting bill – “The Safe Chemicals Act.” If passed, it will be the first overhaul of the federal chemical law since 1976 and consumers are taking note. The new bill would require that ingredients be determined safe for human health before being used in everyday consumer products. The pending legislation has led several industry leaders to pledge to remove potentially harmful and carcinogenic chemicals from several offerings over the next several years.

“Increasing evidence shows that the chemicals included in everyday products could be contributing to children’s diseases and behavioral disorders, including asthma, autism and cancer,” says Gigi Lee Chang, CEO of Healthy Child Healthy World, one of the nation’s leading independent non-profit organizations dedicated to the empowerment of consumers and the protection of children from harmful chemicals. “Until the U.S. adopts better regulations around product safety—like we do in other countries—parents are left to bear the burden of protecting their children’s health by educating themselves and making conscious purchases. With the help of Walgreens Ology products, concerned consumers now have easier access to affordable and safer solutions.”

This products are a good option for people that do not support animal testing, but I wish all the products were aimal by products free. Some of them are according to their package, but not all of them. Please more vegan affordable products!

So are Ology shampoos vegan?? It seems like it but I don”t see anyone stating it… Nonetheless the Ology label is a sight better than the Aveeno Baby wash I just shelved. Actually went to Walgreen’s to get Dr. Bronner’s castile soap and found Ology.
