Your favorite Disney characters are back on the ice in the family friendly show, Treasure Trove. Filled with beautifully choreographed ice skating, songs from some of the most known Disney shows brought back memories from my childhood as they created some new ones for my young children. Treasure Trove was just that, a wonderful mix of old and new Disney to entertain and delight people of all ages.
Kicking off Treasure Trove was the fantastic super hero family, better known as The Incredibles. We enjoyed the whole show featuring excerpts from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lion King, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Aladdin, and featuring my daughter’s favorite Disney princess, Ariel, The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel and a show new to me, The Frog Prince. Did you know that Snow White was not only Disney’s first animated film, but also the first ever feature length animated film?
Highlights from the show include the two sided deck of cards that made up the Queen of Hearts’ army, they were so in sync and the kids loved trying to guess which side of the card had the actual person’s face and which was the puppet side. The children really loved seeing Peter Pan and Tinkerbell “fly” through the air and land ever so gracefully on the ice. The Wildebeest stampede in The Lion King was incredible. The thunderous music coupled with the beautiful moving scenery captivated the whole audience.
Another favorite part of ours included the fireworks entrance by the genie from Aladdin as well as the special flying magic carpet ride and giant friendly elephant. My daughter was especially happy to see her favorite Disney princesses Ariel, and Rapunzel once again. She barely would stay in her seat when they skated on the ice. Princess Tiana made a grand entrance to her rockin’ 50′s music which got everyone moving in their seat.
Another part of the show that I especially enjoyed, was when Emcee Mickey Mouse (joined by Goofy, Donald Duck and Minnie) underscored just how brave, strong, and determined the women in each Disney Story were. I appreciated that he spoke about the characteristics that made them persevere and didn’t focus on their beauty.
The finale included a partner skate with several of the Disney princesses, even ones, like Cinderella, that were not featured in a full segment.
There’s nothing quite like a live performance. The ice skating was good, the performers entertaining, the costumes and scenery exciting, and seeing your favorite characters come to life is an experience the children won’t soon forget.
Overall, Treasure Trove was magical, enjoyed by all of us and was a great way to spend time together as a family.
