As a Green and Natural mama I am a huge advocate and supporter of breastfeeding. I honestly think it is the single most important thing you can do to aid in your child’s development (even if for only one day!). They benefits are endless, the bond unimaginable and the effects long- lasting. Breastfeeding can be difficult, and although I had a comparatively easier time than some, I know that without my supportive network, any questions, confusions or doubts I had would have made my breastfeeding time a lot more challenging. I had support from the very woman by whom I was breastfed, my husband, my sister, sister-in-law, best friend, close friends and many members of my community. Having a support system to rely on made breastfeeding an even more pleasurable experience. If you are an expectant mom I urge you to talk to other moms about the benefits and challenges of breastfeeding before your baby’s arrival. Reading books and taking classes are helpful too, but I found real life talk from women who didn’t hold anything back helped me the most. The La Leche League is a supportive, pro-breastfeeding group that has been around for decades. They offer a myriad of services and are there for you day and night to help you through the very “job” you were created to do for your baby.
Lansinoh is a company that is a proud supporter of breastfeeding and offers a wide variety of products to aid and assist you so you may be successful. From Lanolin, and nursing pads, to soothing gel inserts to breast pumps and storage bags, they have everything you’ll need for your breastfeeding journey. Their website is chuck full of helpful Q’s and A’s, resources, and guides on all things breastfeeding. I like the tone of the site, very gentle, and it makes you feel like a welcomed member to the breastfeeding community. I love that they offer information to prepare for nursing, support during and tips for working moms.
In the early stages of breastfeeding my best friend gave my Lanisnoh soothing gel pads and they were a life saver. I have bought them for several friends and family members and think they should hand them out in hospitals. I love that they are reusable.
But the one item, I used for breastfeeding “ailments”, cracked hands, minor cuts, scalp irritations and anything I could think of, was the Lansinoh HPA Lanolin. I could not be without the soothing, all natural, pure lanolin. All lanolin is NOT equal. I remembered having only used Lansinoh because it was the only Lanolin that said I didn’t have to wash it off before nursing my child.
To confirm what I already knew, I spoke with a rep from Lansinoh in person as well as one online about the purity of Lansinoh’s lanolin. Lanolin comes from the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals (sheep) and can contain amounts of pesticides, additives and/or preservatives, WHEN PROCESSED. YUCK! Who wants their baby to ingest anything besides milk when nursing? Lansinoh’s Lanolin is certifiably different. I was provided with the following (very reassuring!) information:
• The safest nipple topical available—and the only one that is 100% pure HPA® Lanolin; it provides a medium that allows moist wound healing to occur.
• Single-ingredient product that contains no preservatives, no additives, no water, no chemicals, and no perfume.
• All color- and odor-forming impurities are selectively filtered out.
• Refined at low temperatures without any bleaching, unlike other lanolin nipple topicals.
• Because it contains no water, does not provide a medium in which bacteria can grow and is thereby bacteriostatic.
• Can be used with complete confidence of safety by those allergic to other brands of lanolin.
• Guaranteed to never contain more than one part per million of total combined pesticide residues (.000001).
• A current Certificate of Analysis is always available for review.
